A man in Britain stole a car with an elderly woman in the passenger seat.
The resident of Greater Manchester County went shopping in the car with her 89-year-old mother. She exited the car in the parking lot outside the store, leaving the engine running to keep her mother warm. The elderly woman was left sitting in the car as she suffers from dementia and blindness.
At this time a man, later identified as 51-year-old David Stevenson, got into the car and stole it along with the blind passenger. The daughter of the kidnapped pensioner called the police and told them what had happened. Police officers, upon discovering the stolen car, began a chase. Stevenson tried to get away from them, he looped through the streets of the town of Ashton-under-Lyme and drove out on the oncoming lane in the hope of escaping from pursuit. However, after a time, the offender decided to give himself up. The elderly woman was returned to her daughter, she was not injured.
Stevenson was sentenced to eight years and six months in prison. He was found guilty of carjacking, kidnapping, dangerous driving and driving without a license.
