A 55-year-old gardener from Germany fell on a metal bar and survived thanks to the quick actions of his son and doctors.
Frank Vaorin was standing on a ladder and was trimming trees at his home in the city of Cuxhaven when he snapped and fell on a rusty rod seven centimeters wide. The rod pierced the man’s body a few centimeters from his anus, went through his torso and punctured his chest. “I remember hanging from the rod with my legs up. My son quickly slipped something under my feet to prevent the rod from moving further,” says Vaorin.
The victim’s son immediately called for help. Soon rescuers arrived at the man’s house. They sawed off the pole, after which they handed Vaorin to paramedics. The man was taken to the hospital, where the rusty rod was safely extracted from his body. It is noted that the rod did not hit any vital organ. “The fact that the rod did not damage any organ is a true miracle. In my entire career, I have never come across such a case,” says the surgeon who performed the operation.
Vaorin is currently in hospital recovering from his injuries. “I want to thank the doctors and rescuers for saving my life and also my son for being quick to help and calling for help. I’m just glad to be alive,” he states.
