A resident of the United States married herself and spent almost half a million rubles on the wedding.
39-year-old Endria Johnson from the state of Maryland first married in 2015. The woman’s ex-husband was 14 years older than her, and over time this became the cause of mutual misunderstanding and conflicts. The spouses eventually divorced in 2018. Johnson was in despair for several years because of the breakup with her ex-husband and practiced with a psychologist to cope with the heartache. After some time, she realized that in order to get rid of the suffering, she needed to love herself. “I made a mistake in my first marriage in that I was giving unconditional love to the other person and not giving the same love to myself first,” she says.
After realizing this, Johnson made the decision to marry herself. She proposed to herself and a few months later, she played the wedding. It is noted that the bride did not invite guests to the celebration. “This ceremony was deeply personal for me. I wanted to say my vows out loud, but I did not want a traditional lavish wedding,” she says. The ceremony took place in the Mexican city of Tulum and was led by a shaman. First Johnson took a dip in a natural well cenote, thus “cleansed” of negative emotions. Then she put on a wedding dress, went to the cenote and put on a ring. The woman spent about 4.9 thousand dollars on the unusual wedding Johnson admitted that many people judged her for her decision to marry herself. Some coworkers decided she had mental health issues and demanded she be fired. As a result, Johnson lost her job. Despite this, she maintains that she doesn’t care about other people’s opinions. “People will think what they want to think about you, so you can do what you want. Marriage to myself taught me a lot. I realized that I couldn’t bring anything to a relationship if I didn’t love myself,” she states.
