While he was still married, Phillip Schofield admits to having an affair with a considerably younger male ITV staffer and said he is resigning from his positions at the network.
In a statement that was published in the Daily Mail not long before his agency announced they were cutting ties with him immediately, he acknowledged the relationship and that he had lied about it.
His resignation has been accepted, and ITV has stated he will no longer be appearing on the network.
On Friday, a representative for the network stated: “We are extremely disappointed at Phillip Schofield’s admissions of dishonesty.”
“The relationships we have with those we work with are based on trust. Phillip made assurances to us which he now acknowledges were untrue and we feel badly let down.”
“We accept his resignation from ITV and therefore can confirm that he will not be appearing on ITV as had previously been stated.”
It is thought that the younger coworker, who is not well-known, wanted to keep the connection private.
In his own statement, Mr. Schofield said he was “deeply sorry” for misleading ITV, his coworkers, friends, and agents about the relationship.
He said: “I did have a consensual on-off relationship with a younger male colleague at This Morning.
“Contrary to speculation, whilst I met the man when he was a teenager and was asked to help him to get into television, it was only after he started to work on the show that it became more than just a friendship.”
“That relationship was unwise, but not illegal. It is now over.”
His former agency, YMU Group, issued a devastating statement in which they claimed that their partnerships are “based entirely on trust” and that “honesty and integrity” are basic pillars of their company. Group CEO Mary Bekhait continued by stating that Mr. Schofield “contradicted” what he had previously informed them after acquiring “important new information.”
