An 80-year-old woman from Chile carried her friend’s dead body in a suitcase for a year
An 80-year-old woman in Chile preserved her friend’s remains, put them in a suitcase and carried them around with her for a year.
It came to light after the Santiago resident, who was initially mistaken for a nun, forgot the bag containing the ashes in the street. “According to preliminary information, the 80-year-old nun, who lives in a house on Los Jardines Street, left a suitcase with human remains near it, which was found by a garbage man,” Santiago police released a statement.
The Chilean woman was detained along with her daughter. She told police that the suitcase contained her dead friend, who passed away last April due to cancer. They had promised each other not to part even after the end of their earthly journey. Therefore, the Chilean woman placed her friend’s body in the suitcase instead of reporting her death and went everywhere with it.
At the same time, law enforcers do not intend to bring the nun to criminal responsibility. She will only face a fine for not notifying the authorities of her friend’s death.
