Independent: Taxidermist made a pencil sharpener from a frozen rat
Taxidermist Jack Devaney from the English town of Plymouth, Devon, has revealed his new work – a pencil case and pencil sharpener he made from a dead rat.
Devaney, 26, buys frozen rodent carcasses from a pet store, which are sold as snake food, and makes unusual crafts from them. In another of his creations, a pencil sharpener is located in the back of the animal. According to the Briton, he sold the rat for 75 pounds sterling.
“It’s incredible how many things you can make out of a rat. The heads can be turned into fridge magnets, the paws can be used to make portable high-five machines,” the taxidermist said.
Devani’s first work was a stuffed mouse he made to impress his girlfriend. He noted that the sweetheart was not deterred by his hobby. And in 2018, Devani made a rabbit toaster in honor of Easter.
Publications on social networks provide sales of objects made by him. The most popular are the rats. He spends the proceeds on tuition fees. The taxidermist receives conflicting feedback about his work, but tries to answer everyone politely.
When asked why he does this, Devaney said, “I’ve never been an art person. I just make things in the hope that someday someone will invent a time machine and I can go back and post them on the internet to make that self who is still a kid laugh.” Earlier it was reported that an American woman sewed a bikini from the skins of frogs, which she caught and ate. The girl claims that she learned it from her father, who was a hunter.
