Two female tourists faked sex with a copy of the statue of “Bacchus” of Giambologna in Italy and outraged locals. Photos of foreigners spread in social networks, which drew the attention of the Daily Mail.
It is specified that we are talking about a sculpture of a naked man standing in the niche of the Rossi-Cerchi tower in Florence. One of the travelers depicted in the photos as kissing the sculpture, and then pressed against her buttocks. The other simulated sexual intercourse by kneeling next to the statue.
Florence authorities have demanded tough action against the two female tourists. They also put forward the idea of imposing high fines for inappropriate behavior of foreigners. And locals wanted to put the girls in jail for disrespecting the country’s culture. “Are we sure we need such tourists?” – they wondered.
On July 20, 2008, a copy of the sculpture was installed in the niche of the Rossi-Cherki Tower, while the original of the famous work by Giambologna became a decoration of the Bargello Museum.
