Several hundred parliamentarians and staff of the European Parliament accidentally came to Disneyland instead of Strasbourg.
A special charter train for officials and parliamentarians regularly runs between Brussels and Strasbourg, since the European Parliament is located in two cities at once. It makes the trip about once a month. However, the flight that left Brussels on Monday, October 16, did not go as planned. Instead of Strasbourg, passengers ended up in Disneyland.
As representatives of the French railroad company SNCF later told reporters, there was a breakdown on one of the switches near Paris, and the train went on the wrong track. The train stayed at the Disneyland station for about 45 minutes and then went to its destination.
Some officials commented on the incident that it would have been better if the European Parliament had been based within a single city, or at least a country. Pelle Geertsen, a parliamentarian from Denmark, even asked if the parliament buildings in Strasbourg would be suitable for a new Disneyland.
